Have you ever read the back of your t-shirt tag and saw 50% Cotton 50% Rayon and thought to yourself ugh, polyester. Rayon just sounds like a synthetic fiber, doesn't it? Well, let me answer the question of "is Rayon a synthetic fiber?" No, it is not. Well not entirely. It is considered a semi-synthetic fiber.
So, what is Rayon? Well, to put it simply, it is a fabric made from the cellulose of plant fibers, usually wood pulp. It does take a lot of chemicals to make this transformation from wood pulp into a textile, so it is considered a semi-synthetic fiber.
Rayon is soft and has beautiful drape. It can create a wide variety of clothing. This blog is to show you what can be made with the Rayon Crepe WayMaker Fabrics has to offer.
I suppose, I should first talk a little about our Rayon Crepe. What makes the "Crepe" part of Rayon Crepe. Crepe is a very distinctive fabric type. It usually has a bit of a shine to it, and a distinctive look to the fabric.
Dresses are always a really great use for Rayon Crepe. If you're ready to dip your toe into the "woven" stream, try the Rayon Crepe! It has amazing drape and will hide a multitude of mistakes. This dress is made using the Modern Blooms design and of course is made with Rayon Crepe. This was my first successful woven garment. I attribute the success due to the ease of the Rayon Crepe as well as the pattern I used. This pattern is from Copper Creek Patterns, and they have truly amazing directions!
